Ken Steele has worked in the health care industry for nearly 30 years and earned a reputation as a successful negotiator and expert administrator. As the Vice President of Managed Care for Catholic Healthcare West in San Francisco, California, Ken Steele is responsible for contract negotiations at 20 hospitals in and around San Francisco, representing more than $1 billion in managed care revenue. In this capacity, Ken Steele has negotiated contracts with local government agencies, independent practice associations, medical groups, Medi-Cal health plans, and carriers including Aetna Inc., Blue Shield of California, and Health Net. Ken Steele has also produced results in areas including contract language, revenue cycle management, and claim denials management.

Before taking his position as Vice President of Managed Care, Ken Steele worked for Catholic Healthcare West in several other capacities, including President of St. Mary's Medical Center and Regional Director of Managed Care for the West San Francisco Bay Area. As President of St. Mary's Medical Center from 2001 until 2008, Ken Steele was responsible for a dramatic financial turnaround and a significant improvement in revenues from outpatient care. Ken Steele also improved the hospital's strategic planning process and established several committees and a Community Board of Directors.

From 1998 to 2001, Ken Steele served as Catholic Healthcare West's Vice President of Managed Care for the Bay Area. Ken Steele's responsibilities in this position included managed care operations at seven hospitals in the San Francisco area. Ken Steele negotiated HMO and PPO contracts to improve his region's managed care revenue by over $10 million.

Earlier in his career, Ken Steele was a Regional Director of Managed Care for Catholic Healthcare West and a Vice President of Professional Services and Managed Care for Marian Medical Center. Ken Steele began his work in health care with Hospital Corporation of America as an Assistant Administrator at Encino Hospital Medical Center.

Ken Steele holds an undergraduate degree in business administration and a Master's degree in Hospital and Health Services Administration, both from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Currently a resident of San Francisco, California, Ken Steele is active in the local Kiwanis Club and enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
